My client has 40 or more employees. What should I do?

StretchDollar is built for small businesses with fewer than 50 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees. Here's what to do based on your client's size.

Under 40 employees

Quote and onboard as usual. No extra steps!

40–49 employees

You can quote your client as usual. During setup, after they confirm their policy, your client is asked to book a short call with our team before entering billing.

  • Let your client know this step is coming, so it doesn't catch them off guard.
  • If they've already had a call with us and are still stuck on that screen, email support@stretchdollar.com. We'll help them move to the next step.

50 or more employees

Companies with 50+ FTEs are "Applicable Large Employers" (ALEs). They have extra ACA requirements that StretchDollar isn't set up to support. See Why Does StretchDollar Limit to 50 Full-Time Employees?

Don't walk away from the opportunity. Talk to us before you quote.

Please note: The 50 limit is based on full-time equivalents, not total headcount. Part-time hours are combined into full-time equivalents, averaged over the prior year. A company with more than 50 people on payroll can still be under 50 FTEs. If you're not sure, ask us before you rule the client out.

What if a client grows past 50 later?

They can keep their ICHRA. Their requirements change once they become an ALE. See What happens if our company grows past 50 employees while using an ICHRA?
