How do I add a waiting period to an employer’s plan?

Your client can choose their preferred waiting period during the onboarding process. While this option isn't available in the quoting process just yet, they can select from a 0, 30, 60, or 90-day waiting period.

What's a waiting period and how does it work?

A waiting period is simply the amount of time a new employee must wait before their ICHRA becomes active. This means new hires will wait a set number of days before they are eligible to enroll in their coverage. All health plans start on the first of the month so the waiting period will adjust to the 1st of the month after the selected waiting period.

For example, let's say a new employee is hired on January 15, and the company has a 30-day waiting period. The new employee's ICHRA start date would be March 1, which is the first of the month following their waiting period which concluded Feb 14.
