Why Your Client's Admin Is Asked for SSN, a Driver's License, and Beneficial Owner Info
For agents: This is one of the most common places a new employer Admin pauses during onboarding. Use this explanation to set expectations before (or when) they stall.
Why StretchDollar asks for this
To unlock ACH reimbursements — company bank → employee bank — financial partners require identity verification for people who control or own the business. StretchDollar uses Dwolla for this verification. It is a banking/compliance requirement, not optional product “extra paperwork.”
What is usually required
- SSN (or passport alternative, when offered): Required for the Admin/controller completing verification so fund transfers can be unlocked.
- Beneficial owner information: Anyone who owns 25% or more of the company generally must be listed (ownership details, identifying information). Owners may also need to provide an SSN/passport as prompted. The Admin then certifies beneficial ownership.
- Driver's license / government ID photo: Have a clear driver's license (or passport) prepared before starting Account Setup. It may not always be required on the first submit — if Dwolla verifies automatically, the Admin may not be asked to upload ID yet. If verification needs more proof, the portal will request identity documents (commonly a driver's license or passport) and/or other supporting docs on the “Documents Required” / retry path.
Also expect a physical business address (no PO Box / registered-agent mailbox) and the Admin’s residential address for the controller — see Business Address vs. Mailing Address.
Tip: A clear photo of a driver’s license (not a fuzzy scan) uploads more reliably when documents are requested.
What you can tell the client
Set the expectation early: verification is required before reimbursements can run. If they get stuck mid-verification, use Helping a Client Who's Stuck During Account Verification, then escalate to support@stretchdollar.com if status still won’t clear.
